Civic Beautification
The Gentians are currently rehabilitating the Wildflower Garden on West Greenville Road. Originally designed and planted by the club in 1985, the site experienced catastrophic tree damage during the winter of 2023-24, resulting in a complete change of light exposure. A new Ilex opaca (American Holly) and a hedge of Ilex glabra (Inkberry) have been added to the garden. Also, invasive Lily of the Valley had taken over a large section of the garden. Work to eradicate that problem began in late 2024. In the spring of 2025, a “dry river bed” feature was added to the garden. Work continues in the fall of 2025 to add more native plants to complete the project.
